Andrew Bergman is the Co-Chairperson of UAWD, serving on the Steering Committee since 2021 and helping lead the campaign to win direct elections in the UAW. He is a rank-and-file member of UAW Local 22, working at the General Motors Factory Zero Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, where he assembles electric vehicles. Andrew got his start in the UAW as a graduate student worker and member of Local 5118, the Harvard Graduate Students Union, where he helped build the campaign to win a union, helped lead the Local’s first two strikes, and served on the executive board. He is excited to continue to fight for rank-and-file worker control on the shop floor and rebuild the UAW as a class struggle union that is run by and for its members.

Though he was elected to put an end to their stranglehold, Fain has instead re-entrenched his former antagonists and been realigned as their new leader.
