Stellantis Shutters Canadian Plant and Promises Future Jobs in Illinois, UAW Leaders Cheer

    Andrew Bergman, Martha Grevatt May 6, 2026June 18, 2026

Stellantis is shutting down its Brampton, Ontario, plant, devastating a Canadian community while saying it is sending jobs to the U.S. Instead of enabling Stellantis to execute on its whipsawing playbook, UAW leadership and U.S. autoworkers should unite with Unifor and Canadian autoworkers. Our union should be promoting a class struggle strategy of resisting plant closures by exerting control over production and building cross-border worker solidarity.

Ford Busts Union and Fires 1,600 Workers as Kentucky BlueOval SK Plant Closes—How Can the UAW Fight Back?

    Martha Grevatt March 9, 2026May 6, 2026

Workers at BlueOval SK, who recently unionized with UAW, lost their jobs in February as the joint venture between Ford and Korean battery manufacturer SK On was dissolved and as Ford pivots from EV battery to energy storage manufacturing. UAW members can build the capacity to challenge plant closures through a sectoral strategy that combats whipsawing and enables workers to fight for one another.

  • The image is a collage of colored photos of UAW Black and white workers, holding signs that say ‘UNION YES’, mixed in with black and white photos of buildings in what appears as a rural town. One clipped photo is of a sign that says ‘This Facility is CLOSED.’ There are smaller cut outs of flowers and cardinal birds in the bottom left corner and the upper right corner. Another cut out is of a white man wearing a red shirt that on the back says ‘FUTURE’ and the UAW wheel.

Overcoming Rural Worker Exploitation: Building a Militant Sectoral Manufacturing Strategy

    Rob Lett, Nolan Tabb November 13, 2025May 6, 2026

As the rural working class is being exploited for profit through predatory tactics that decimate rural communities, some rural workers have built rank-and-file power to mount militant strikes that span rural facilities across the country. A class struggle vision would move beyond simply organizing new shops and narrowly fighting for bread-and-butter issues, expanding demands to fight whipsawing and address brutal workplace conditions by giving workers more control over the shop floor.
